Caroline Kangogo, a police corporal on the run after allegedly murdering a colleague in Nakuru and a merchant in Kiambu, has been sighted in Nakuru.
On Thursday night, the mother of two, who is linked to the deaths of police officer John Ogweno and businessman Peter Ndwiga, was allegedly having fun at a Nakuru pub.
According to a source who saw the runaway officer and sought anonymity owing to the delicacy of the situation, Kangogo was taking a cab to Nairobi from Nakuru on Friday afternoon.
The taxi driver recognized her immediately and declined the order. Caroline Kangogo then chose to travel to Nairobi in a 4NT matatu.
Our source then hurried to the Nakuru Police Station to report the event and accompany the cops to a renowned Nakuru bar where Kangogo reportedly spent the night. The police were analyzing CCTV video at the lounge at the time of publication.
“She called for a Wasili taxi to Nairobi, and the driver recognized her. “Word has it that she spent Thursday night partying and drinking in a Nakuru pub,” the source told K24 Digital, adding, “He knows her well because she worked in Nakuru.”
Caroline Kangogo may have traveled to Nairobi’s Mathare slums after killing Ndegwa in Juja, according to investigators probing the two men’s murders.
A licensed firearms holder shot a woman named Phanice Chemutai Juma on suspicion that she was Caroline Chemutai Kangogo, the murderous officer, earlier on Friday, according to authorities.
Ken Muyundo, a businessman in the hotel industry, shot Chemutai immediately after meeting her at Kiminini market, according to Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Fredrick Ochieng’.
“Ken Muyundo met the lady a few years ago and exchanged contact information. He’s been getting calls from the lady, pleading for them to meet. Ken met her at 9:30 p.m. yesterday and, in a panic, shot her in the lower left abdomen, injuring her,” Ochieng’ added.
Kangogo was last spotted on Tuesday night boarding a motorcycle at Kahawa Wendani, then driving to Thika Road and branching off at Drive Inn stage, according to a police signal.
The victim of the shooting incident, who was transported to Kitale County Referral Hospital for treatment, was subsequently identified as Caroline Kangogo.
The suspect had been disarmed, according to the county police chief, awaiting further investigation.
“We have the suspect in custody and he is assisting us with our investigations. We will eventually prosecute him with attempted murder and arraign him in court,” Ochieng’ said.
Kangogo allegedly sent threatening texts to four men suspected of being her past or present boyfriends on the night Ndwiga was slain, leading to the suspicion that she was on a vengeance mission.
Even when a postmortem examination on Ndwiga’s body indicated that he was murdered by a single bullet, the disclosures surfaced. The bullet entered the left region around the ear and exited on the right side, according to a postmortem performed at the General Kago mortuary in Thika, Kiambu county.
Ndwiga’s family members, including his two widows, stood silently in the mortuary, clearly horrified by the way in which the dead had died.
Purity Wanderi, one of his widows, described her husband as a kind man whose death caught her off guard. “I only found out about his death yesterday when his brothers called. I hadn’t heard anything about it,” says the narrator.
Wanderi, 37, who has a kid with Ndwiga, stated that they used to communicate and that the guy continued to assist the family after they divorced in 2012 due to regular domestic squabbles.
“With him, I have just one kid, a Class Eight lad who is still unaware of the catastrophe. Ndwiga would phone me and speak with our son for hours,” she recalled.
Wanderi, who married Ndwiga in 2006, said he began his career as a driver before moving into the wholesale food industry.
Margaret, Ndwiga’s second wife, refused to speak to media because she was too upset.
Kangogo’s relatives in the quiet Nyawa hamlet in Elgeyo Marakwet county were still reeling over the deaths. Kangogo, 34, was characterized by relatives who talked to K24 Digital as a modest woman who rarely argued with anybody.
As neighbors rushed in to console angogo’s father Barnaba Korir and mother Leah Jepkosgei Kangogo, they sat pensively outside their home.
“Hatujaamini kama familia kuwa mtoto wetundiye alifanya hivyo kuwa mtoto wetundiye alifanya hivyo kuwa mtoto wetundiye alifany (we are yet to believe that our daughter committed the murders).
“We apologize deeply to the two families who have lost loved ones,” Korir added.
He stated that she spoke with her daughter earlier this week and that there was no indication that anything was wrong.
“She was a really modest young lady. The news that he killed two individuals astounded me. Mrs Kangogo, who was crying, added, “Tunasema pole kwa familia hizo (we are sorry to the families).”
According to the family, the police officer, who was their firstborn, kept a lot of things to herself. “She could have opened up to us instead of killing two people. Mrs Kangogo added, “As a family, we are saddened.”
Corporal Kangogo was a renowned law enforcer, according to Nakuru County Police Commander Beatrice Kiraguri.
“The news has taken us by surprise. “Since her employment, the officer has maintained a professional work ethic, and we have not observed any instances of indiscipline at work or in her personal life,” the policing official added.
