Kenyan universities are used to sending students their admission letters through post offices. It takes longer and there are times when they do not reach in time. That culture has been boring to the expecting students. However it is changing.
This year the University of Nairobi will admit students electronically. They have launched a system that will enable them send information through the mobile phone and mails. Students will receive short message confirmations that they have been admitted to the university. An emailed letter will indicate the details of admission, college and course the student will take.
This move by the best and oldest university is another system that they have launched head of the rest. For some universities, they still admit students manually and keep manual records. There are those that hostel booking is still done manually instead of the easy and faster online system like in the University of Nairobi.
There is a special feature about the University of Nairobi. They are always ahead of other universities as far as innovation of their management systems is concerned. Most of their services can be accessed online via the students’ and staff portal. This makes systems easy to use and saves the people a lot of time.
As a way forward and in the entire republic, all other universities should launch these types of systems to enable the students or staff members access education easily. It will simplify the system and reduce bureaucratic and time wasting manual operation. As a way of appreciating the digital revolution, they are ahead of many and is quite commendable of them. This is what it means to be a leader.
