After he failed to pay them a ksh100 bribe, three Nairobi City County Askaris pulled out all of his teeth, leaving him battling for his life.
On July 2, 2021, Antoney Maina, a Socks hawker along Tom Nboya street, was on his regular duty when the three askaris bumped into him and allegedly demanded his usual ksh100 bribe, but he only had ksh20 in his wallet, which they allegedly refused, claiming it was too small.
“My brother is having trouble eating. He is unable to chew anything. His brother Elias Mwangi said, “He can only drink porridge and juice via a straw.”
According to Mwangi, the three askaris tied Mwangi’s brother and severely beaten him with a metal rode before fleeing in their county car.
“We took Antoney to Mama Lucy Hospital, where he was admitted, but the damage to his mouth remains significant even after doctors restored his badly wounded lower jaw,” he continued.
Antoney Maina’s family claims that they reported the incident to the Central Police Station two weeks ago, but that nothing has happened since.
