Following his denial of an assault allegation against contractor Stephen Masinde (alias Steve Kay), Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has been released on KSh 100,000 cash bond.
Tuesday, August 2, he was detained at his house in Nasianda, just outside the town of Kimilili. Assaulting Steve in violation of section 234 of the criminal code was pleaded not guilty by Barasa.
The case will be mentioned on August 27.
Immediately following the Friday, July 30 altercation at Baptist Lurare Primary School, the contractor had filled out a Form P3.
A few days before, Barasa had visited his constituency’s Kamukuywa ward, where he was to dedicate five new classrooms created via the Constituency Development Fund.
Steve and his colleague Ronald Graham Wafula, on the other hand, had locked up the freshly completed classrooms, which surprised the politician.
Stephen Steve wanted KSh 3.4 million for the construction before handing over the keys. Barasa was recorded on tape hitting Steve.
Speaking at Namasanda Primary School on Saturday, July 31, the MP dismissed reports that he had slapped the contractor, claiming he only asked him to zip up his trousers.
“Kwa vile ni raifiki yangu nikaona nikama alienda kujisaidia na alikua hajafunga zip. Mimi naona gari yake ndogo iko ndani hajafunga nikasema wacha nikimbie nimwambie garage yake iko empty funga duka. Sasa wakati nilienda kumuambia hivo akatoroka mbio akafikiria naenda kumpiga (Since he is my friend, I thought he had gone for a short call and forgot to zip up his trousers, his manhood was nearly exposed…..when I approached him, he started running away perhaps thinking that I was going to attack him),”
he claimed.
